Physics of Motion

Kinematic Equations

The fundamental equations that describe motion with constant acceleration:

  • v = u + at - Final velocity equation
  • s = ut + ½at² - Displacement equation
  • v² = u² + 2as - Velocity-displacement equation
  • s = (u + v)t/2 - Average velocity equation

Projectile Motion

Motion of objects under the influence of gravity:

  • Range = v₀²sin(2θ)/g - Maximum horizontal distance
  • Max Height = v₀²sin²(θ)/2g - Maximum vertical height
  • Time of Flight = 2v₀sin(θ)/g - Total flight time
  • Horizontal and vertical components are independent

Circular Motion

Motion in a circular path with constant radius:

  • v = ωr - Tangential velocity
  • ω = 2π/T = 2πf - Angular velocity
  • a = v²/r = ω²r - Centripetal acceleration
  • F = mv²/r - Centripetal force
